Press Release Body = Making the journey from Edinburgh Airport into the city centre
will soon be easier than ever before after Scottish MPs gave their backing to a new
rail link.

The proposed construction will cost around 610 million and will be country\'s most
costly transport development since devolution in 1997.

Travellers to Glasgow Airport will also benefit from the service, which will link
Edinburgh via an underground station to the rest of Scotland\'s rail network.

Transport minister Tavish Scott said: \"The Edinburgh Airport Rail Link will simply
make Scotland a more attractive place to visit and do business.

\"To oppose, prevaricate or dither is not an option. This government will not. We
will act and deliver this project.\"

The project, which was voted for by MSPs in an 86-29 majority, is set to get
underway in 2008 and is expected to be completed by 2011.

It is good news for first minister Jack McConnell who announced in October that he
planned measures to increase the number of US tourists visiting Scotland.

Mr McConnell revealed the strategy which is set to bring around 500,000 new US
tourists north of the border by 2010.
